Kıvılcım Association was pleased to participate in the Thematic Civil Society Consultation Meeting organized by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Directorate of Civil Society Relations at the IMM Saraçhane Council Hall. The event brought together representatives of public institutions and civil society organizations to discuss the future of Istanbul, strengthen collaboration, and encourage sustainable partnerships that generate long-term social impact.
The consultation meeting was attended by Mr. Nuri Aslan, Acting Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, who emphasized the vital role of civil society organizations in participatory local governance. Nuri Aslan highlighted the importance of dialogue, cooperation, and collective decision-making in building a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable city.
Throughout the meeting, participants discussed the current needs and expectations of civil society organizations operating in Istanbul, as well as ways to strengthen communication and cooperation between public institutions and nonprofit organizations. Particular attention was given to enhancing public–NGO collaborations, improving joint project development processes, and creating more effective coordination mechanisms.
Another major topic was the Istanbul 2050 Plan (Istanbul Planning Agency – IPA) and the broader Vision 2050 framework. Participants explored how civil society can actively contribute to the city’s long-term environmental, social, and economic development goals. The discussions emphasized that inclusive governance and active civic participation are essential components of sustainable urban development.
Disaster preparedness and emergency coordination also formed a key part of the agenda. Representatives exchanged ideas on strengthening cooperation between public authorities and civil society organizations before, during, and after disasters. Effective volunteer management, resource coordination, and rapid communication were identified as essential elements for improving community resilience.
At Kıvılcım Association, our activities focus on creating sustainable social impact through strategic partnerships and collaborative initiatives. Participating in meetings organized by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, particularly those led by the Directorate of Civil Society Relations, enables us to contribute to policy discussions while building stronger relationships with fellow civil society organizations and public institutions.
We believe that every consultation meeting strengthens the dialogue between government and civil society, encourages innovative solutions, and supports the development of more effective public–NGO collaborations.
